Detroit College Promise

The Detroit College Promise is a scholarship and college readiness program for all Detroit Public School students based on the successful Kalamazoo Promise. We plan to ultimately offer scholarships for up to four years of undergraduate tuition to all DPS graduates who attend Michigan public colleges and universities and fill out the FAFSA financial aid form. The sole eligibility criteria will be at least four years of continuous enrollment in DPS and residency in Detroit by the time of graduation.

Through these scholarships, incentives for academic performance and other assistance, we are changing the education culture in Detroit. The scholarships motivate DPS parents and students to plan for a college education and improve academic performance. As parents become more active with their children’s’ education, they will also force the elected school board to be more responsive. With an improving DPS and the financial incentive of our scholarships, we anticipate that more parents will move into Detroit, which will further improve DPS and bring more businesses into the area.
