Empower Yourself NCF

 

UNCF - the United Negro College Fund will be your hosts for the Empower Me Tour. The purpose of the tour is to bring together minority middle school, high school and college students to share in a one-of-a-kind experience where you will be motivated, encouraged and inspired to take control of your destiny! The tour promotes education, mentoring and volunteerism as tools for achieving your goals and dreams in life. The Empower Me Tour will offer a unique opportunity to gain valuable information, learn useful life skills, speak with corporate recruiters, and obtain information about scholarships and college. New Scholarship Opportunitiescholarships

Michigan Technological University is pleased to announce the Tech360 program. The Tech360 Scholarship Program provides 360 degrees of guidance, encouragement, and reinforcement for students from underserved populations who are interested in receiving an outstanding education.

Students will also be enrolled in the Excelling the Student Experience of Learning Program, designed to promote student success by offering academic mentoring through services such as:

  • Peer mentoring
  • Study groups
  • One-on-one staff support
  • Academic progress monitoring
  • Unique campus events, activities, and career and personal development seminars

The opportunity: Tech360 is for high school seniors in the Detroit, Jackson, Beecher, and Kalamazoo school districts in Michigan, as well as seniors from other selected high schools. Students must enroll at Michigan Tech in the fall following high school graduation.
Scholarship value: Twelve to fifteen students will be awarded a $5,000 annual scholarship in additional to regular Michigan Tech merit-based aid (bringing total merit-based aid potential value up to $9,000 per year).  Need-based aid is also available for qualifying students.

Length: The award covers four years (eight semesters) of study. Recipients must maintain a

 

 

 

minimum 2.50 cumulative grade point average to qualify for award renewal.

Deadline for Application: Extended to February 15, 2011.

 

 

 

Determination of Award: Selection of finalists will be made in early March. Students selected to participate in Tech360 will be notified by mid-March.

For over 34 years, the Detroit Area Pre-College Engineering Program (DAPCEP) has been providing opportunities in science, technology, math and engineering (STEM) to Detroit students right on college campuses.  From ACT skills to renewable energy, DAPCEP can help you prepare to get into college and succeed once you're there, and it's FREE!  Whether you opt to pursue traditional STEM subjects or other directions, DAPCEP courses give everyone greater capacity to think critically, work independently and apply an ever-widening set of sophisticated skills.
