9 August 2010

This is our monthly email providing important information to Detroit Public School (DPS) students, parents, teachers and staff, and others interested in preparing Detroit students for college.  Please forward this email to your friends and social networks.

Students who register for The Detroit College Promise scholarship and the adults they designate automatically receive this email.

A Great Time Was Had By All
Thanks to all who attended the pizza party at Gracie See Pizzeria on August 9. The pizza party was for students who completed our scholarship application process and are going to college. They also received a gift package from us. We congratulate them all and are pleased to announce that we will be doing this again next year! All students who graduate from DPS and who complete the application process will be invited, regardless of where they go to school or where they live. Below are some of the pictures from the event.  You can see more photos on our Facebook Page by clicking here. Find us on Facebook

Students are Rolling in the Dough!
We are pleased to announce that this year, our students received on average of 16% more in grant funding than last year. For the class of 2009, students who completed our application process received an average of $8,201 in grants, and for the class of 2010, the average to date is over $9,500. Remember that all students must complete the FAFSA application to be eligible for The Detroit College Promise scholarship program!

Book Money
We are pleased to announce that for the class of 2010, we will provide at least $50 in book money to every DPS graduate in our program who completed the application process and attends a Michigan public college or university.  Students can receive up to $500 if their FAFSA related grants do not cover all of their tuition.  If the FAFSA related grants do cover all of their tuition, we will send the college or university $50 towards books. We hope to expand all of our scholarship awards in the future.

DPS "I'm In" Parade and Rally, Dr. Bill Cosby returns a third time to DPS, this time as Parade Grand Marshal
