This is our monthly email providing important information to Detroit Public School (DPS) high school students, parents, teachers and staff, and others interested in preparing for college.  It is automatically sent to students who apply for our scholarship, the adults they designate in their application, DPS staff and others who request it.  Please forward this email to your friends and social networks.

Continue Working on your FASFA!

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the most important financial aid application. Remember the FASFA is also used to apply for aid from other sources, such as your state or school. The FAFSA website is at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Federal Student Financial Aid Deadlines
The 2009-2010 School Year (July 1st, 2009 - June 30th, 2010):

• FAFSA on the Web applications must be submitted by midnight Central Daylight time, June 30, 2010.
• Corrections on the Web forms must be submitted by midnight Central Daylight Time, September 21, 2010.
• Note: Your school must have your complete and correct information by your last day of enrollment in the 2009-2010 school year.

Note: Any members of the Cody graduating class of 2009 who want to receive the scholarship for the 2010-2011 academic year must also submit a new FAFSA form and send us their financial aid letter (by email, fax or regular mail).

Attention Class of 2010 students Who Have Filled Out the FASFA Form

For those students who have completed the FASFA form, remember we need the following from you in order to receive a scholarship:

• Once you have been accepted by a college, they will send you a financial aid package which indicates what grants you will receive.  You need to send this information to us.  Our fax # is 248-646-3119, you can mail it to us at the address below, or you can email it to us at DetroitCollegePromise@gmail.com.
• When you have decided on what college or university to attend, complete the Detroit College Promise scholarship acceptance form (click here), and mail, fax or email both the scholarship acceptance form AND the financial aid package from the college you will be attending to us.

Register for The Detroit Compact scholarships

We urge all DPS 9th, 10th and 11th grade high school students to register for the Detroit Compact scholarships, sponsored by the Detroit Regional Chamber.  These scholarships pay FULL TUITION to most Michigan universities.  The application takes only 5-10 minutes (click here for more details).  The scholarship requirements are a cumulative GPA of 3.0, ACT score of 21 and 95% attendance, which all students should try to achieve.  Contact Robert Troutman at (313) 596-0478 or rtroutma@detroitchamber.com.

Cody and Douglass Students- Earn Prizes for your Hard Work
For those students at Cody and Douglass who earn a 21 or higher on their ACT, Office Depot is offering a $25 gift certificate. Start studying!

Spread the Word.  Tell Your Friends to Sign Up!
Next year, we are offering scholarships to all high school students at all DPS high schools, (contingent on funding).  The only criteria to be eligible for a scholarship are:

(a) attend a DPS high school continuously from 12/1/2010 thru graduation,
(b) be a Detroit resident continuously from 12/1/2010 thru graduation,
(c) apply for our scholarship by 12/1/2010.

If you know any DPS students in 8th thru 11th grade, have them apply today!  Registration takes about 2 minutes - just visit www.DetroitCollegePromise.org, then click on the Student Login button, and follow the prompts. Detailed instructions are at http://www.detroitcollegepromise.com/FlyerHowToEnroll.pdf.  The number of students registered to date at each high school are listed on our News page, or by clicking here.  Make sure that your school has most of its students registered.
