This is our monthly email providing important information for Detroit Public School students, parents, teachers and staff, and others interested in preparing Detroit students for college. Don't forget
Financial Aid 2015-2016 is now OPEN!
One of the requirements for claiming the DCP scholarship is to send us your financial aid award letter from college. To receive this, you must fill out the FAFSA which is now available online. Please make sure to fill this out as soon as possible!! By filling this out, you may also find other grants you are eligible for to help with college tuition.

FAFSA Workshops in the area 
(1) The Detroit Parent Network is hosting a FAFSA Completion workshop on Thursday, February 22nd from 10 am-4 pm. They are located at 726 Lothrop, Detroit. For more information, call Theresa Mitchell at (313) 309-8118 or Danny Williams at (313) 309-8111.

(2) Edison Branch Library will be offering help in filling out FAFSA on the third Wednesday of each month at 6:00 and the last Saturday of each month at 2:00.  For more information call (313) 481-1722.
 
DCP News


(1) We've created a Facebook group for seniors who are eligible for the DCP scholarship and who are graduating in 2015. Seniors can ask questions, receive help with accepting their scholarship, and reminders about the deadline! If you would like to join the group, email Cara at caraDCP@gmail.com.

(2) Beginning next month we will start accepting scholarship acceptance forms and other documents to claim your scholarship. Our deadline is July 1st, 2015 but we encourage students to send in paperwork as soon as possible in case something is missing.

(3) Did you know that anyone with a PayPal account using eBay can donate to The Detroit College Promise right away - without buying or selling anything? Your donation will be delivered by PayPal Giving Fund, eBay's nonprofit partner. Just click on the Donate Now tab to make your donation. Donate Now donations can come from anyone with a PayPal account, and are not connected to a specific eBay listing. Thanks for your support!

(4) Dr. Nat Pernick will appear on The Community Shall Be Restored TV show on Sunday, February 22nd at 11am. You can watch a live broadcast by clicking here or on Comcast channel 20. We encourage you to watch and learn more about DCP.

(5) Are you shopping at Amazon.com? Before you do, please click on any Amazon.com link from our Home Page or here. Purchases at Amazon.com through a link from our website support DCP without costing you anything!

Pathway To Excellence is Recruiting
Pathway to Excellence (PTE) is a leadership development program whose purpose is to encourage young men to maximize their potential. This purpose is achieved by empowering them with life skills and educational tools needed for academic and professional success. PTE prepares young men for a bright and promising future.

PTE is currently recruiting students to mentor with professionals in the areas of Law, Business-Technology or Medicine.

Applicants must be African American male attending school in Detroit, grades 8-10 and have a 2.8 G.P.A. or above. Please contact LaCherryn Hoost at (313) 309-8102 or email lhoost@detroitparentnetwork.org for your application and more details.
 
Bridging the Gap Youth Career and Job Fair 
The 3rd "Bridging the Gap Youth Career and Job Fair" will be held on Friday, March 27, 2015 at the Detroit Public Safety Head Quarters (Michigan room, 3rd floor), located at 1301 Third St. Youth ages 14-18 who are interested in gaining work experience through a part-time, summer job are invited to attend.

There are two sessions:
  • Session 1 from 10:00-11:30 am
  • Session 2 from 12:30-2:00 pm
