DCP hosts a Focus Group with past Scholar recipients
On December 17, four DPS alumni discussed their experience with the Detroit College Promise staff, offering both their ideas on what the program is doing well and ways to improve the program so that more students may accept the scholarship. The alumni were very excited to share their experiences and want to encourage current students to also take advantage of the scholarship. We were joined by Dr. Glenda Price, President of the DPS Foundation, along with the DPS Foundation's Alumni Development Specialist, Erica Sanders. We want to thank the alumni, Dr. Price and Ms. Sanders for spending their Wednesday afternoon with us!

Evaluation Project with U of M MSW Students
Cara Cole, our University of Michigan MSW intern, together with her classmates, have completed the initial phase of evaluating the effectiveness of the scholarship program. 48 surveys were completed by DPS alumni who graduated in 2009-2014 (several surveys were also partially completed). Some preliminary results include:
  • 44% of the respondents agreed or strongly agreed that the Detroit College Promise scholarship motivated them to be successful in high school
  • 53% of the respondents agreed or strongly agreed that the Detroit College Promise scholarship motivated them to apply for a post-secondary institution (i.e. college)
  • 95% of the respondents were either previously enrolled, currently enrolled, or planned to enroll in a post-secondary institution in the future
  • Students who received help completing the scholarship acceptance form were more likely to accept the scholarship
A more comprehensive report will be made available later this year. The Detroit College Promise will continue to seek feedback from alumni and students in order improve the program. Feel free to contact us with any suggestions that you have for the DCP!
