4th Annual Scholarship Fair For Detroit Students At Cobo Conference Center


The Better Detroit Youth Movement and Infinite Scholar are hosting the Fourth Annual Detroit Scholarship Fair at Cobo Hall on Tuesday, September 25th. This event has awarded more than $40 million in scholarships to Detroit area high school juniors and seniors. Several participating colleges will be awarding scholarships at the event. Students need to bring multiple copies of their transcript with ACT/SAT scores, two letters of recommendation, a resume, and an essay on "Why I want to go to college." Students can register for this event online at This free event will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Cobo Hall (Ambassador Room) in Downtown Detroit. For more information call 248-961-6419.

etroit Public SchoolsDetroit Public Schools Experience Unprecedented Attendance Levels and Large Numbers of Students Returning From Charters/Out-Of-District Schools

Detroit Public Schools Emergency Financial Manager Roy Roberts announced that the school district had reached nearly 85% attendance on the second day of the school year and that more than 1,600 students had enrolled in DPS schools from charters and out-of-district schools as of Wednesday, Sept. 5.

The attendance mark outpaces recent years when the district reached the required 75% minimum attendance for full state aid purposes in the second and third weeks of school in Fall 2011 and 2010, respectively. As of Sept. 5, a total of 860 students had enrolled in DPS schools from out-of-district schools and 694 students had transferred to DPS from charter schools. Remember if your child has entered DPS, lives in Detroit, and is in the 9th grade or below, they can register now for the Detroit College Promise Scholarship. Ninth graders must register by December 1st. Click here to register.
