June 2012

This is our monthly general email about The Detroit College Promise, whose mission is to motivate Detroit students to make education a priority.  We encourage all K-8 students in DPS to sign up today by visiting www.DetroitCollegePromise.org, then click on Student Login, then New Student sign-up.  If you are not part of DPS, now is the time to reconsider.  We are ramping up our fundraising efforts, and hope to award scholarships of up to $2,500 per year for 4 years ($10,000 total) to DPS students in the class of 2016 and beyond.  Let's all work together to strengthen every DPS school and make DPS the top US urban school district!

Pizza Party Awarded To Duke Ellington Students

The Detroit College Promise threw a pizza party for the students at Duke Ellington on May 30th. With the help of Principal Yolanda Herbert and counselor Joe Rogers, we were able to get 100% of Duke Ellington students enrolled in our scholarship program, which prompted the pizza party. During the spring concert, students showcased their various talents to parents, faculty and classmates. After the concert, students and guests were welcomed into the cafeteria to enjoy pizza and pop served by DCP staff & volunteers. When it got busy, Principal Herbert and a few teachers joined in and helped us serve the students and guests. We want to congratulate Duke Ellington Students for making a first step to college and wish them a happy and safe summer break!!
