January 2012 This is our monthly general email
about The Detroit College Promise. For the class of 2011, we have 169
graduates who "claimed" their scholarship. We are
awarding them $47,000 in scholarships, and we helped them obtain $1.5
million in total grants for this college year from all sources. We are encouraging all students in
grades K-8 to sign up today by visiting www.DetroitCollegePromise.org, then click on Student Login, then New Student signup.

Launch Of The Detroit Education Network
We plan to hold quarterly lunch meetings for one hour, to
briefly provide an opportunity to learn what other organizations are
doing. We will have 3-4 organizations give a 5 minute talk about what
they are doing, and what they are looking for in a collaborative
partner. We are emphasizing K-12 education, because good public schools
are an important factor when people decide whether to live in a community,
and we recognize that having a strong Detroit is important to the future of
the region. With the talent and commitment of so many in the region,
we can once again make Detroit a leader in public education, and an
inspiration to other challenged school systems. If you are an
organization, and would like to get involved, call us at 248-646-3269 or
email us at DetroitCollegePromise@gmail.com.
The first meeting is scheduled for January 24 at noon, so please
contact us ASAP if you want to attend. The next meeting is tentatively
scheduled for April. |
