June 2011

This is our monthly general email about The Detroit College Promise. We offer financial incentives in the form of scholarships to all current Detroit Public School students to attend Michigan public colleges and universities. For the 2010-2011-college year (we were at only 6 high schools), we issued 33 scholarships. For the students who completed our paperwork, the average amount received for grants was $9,965 for those attending a university and $5,050 for those attending a community college; 64% had grants that paid 100% of their tuition.  We encourage K-8 students in DPS  to sign up today (visit www.DetroitCollegePromise.org, then click on Student Login, then New student signup).

hank youGenerous Contributions Help In Expansion Of Our Program

Thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Edward Klarman for another generous contribution. These contributions are particularly important this year, as our program expands to a projected 300-500 scholarship recipients from the class of 2011. We want to give them as much money as possible to reward them for their hard work, to make college more possible, and to inspire the thousands of students in our program to make education a high priority.

Do You Sell on EBay?

The Detroit College Promise has teamed up with EBay, so that when you sell an item on EBay, you can designate a percentage of the sales price to support The Detroit College Promise, through their "Mission Fish" program. Here's how it works!

Thanks to Kenneth DeVitto, TRiO Educational Opportunity Center, Wayne State University, for donating bookmark rulers with pop-up tape flags, to give to our graduating seniors attending college next fall, as part of our gift package. To date, 77 students have completed the simple paperwork to receive these gift packages and an invitation to our pizza party, and those that attend Michigan public colleges or universities full time will also receive scholarship dollars. We project that we will provide the gift packages / scholarships to over 300 students this fall.
