Happy
Holidays and Happy New Year!
This
is our monthly email about The Detroit College Promise. We plan to
ultimately offer scholarships for up to four years of undergraduate
tuition to all Detroit Public School graduates who attend Michigan public colleges and universities.
Additional Options to Support
Students
Next year, we will
offer at least two scholarships of $500 for one year at all DPS high
schools. We will increase the number of scholarships as funds are
raised, until we can offer scholarships to all graduating seniors.
Donors can now designate their contributions to be applied to a new
scholarship at a particular school. You can designate the name of
the DPS high school on the check or in an email. To donate, either
for a particular school or to the scholarships in general, please click here.
Your contribution helps motivate students to work harder to attend
college, and is sent directly to Michigan public colleges and
universities for tuition for the scholarship recipient. We also
require students to fill out the FAFSA financial aid form, and last year,
we leveraged an incredible $40 in FAFSA related grants for each dollar we
spent on scholarships. For questions, please contact Dr. Pernick at
248/646-3269.
Registration
Deadline Extended
We have extended
the registration deadline for our scholarship for seniors. All Detroit Public School students, particularly seniors at Cody, Douglass, Cass Tech, Central,
Pershing and Trombly (where we have scholarships this year) should
register online for our scholarship by January
15, 2009. To date, we have 747 registrants. Since
we will have scholarships at all DPS high schools next year, we recommend
that all DPS students register, which only takes 1-2 minutes. To
register, visit www.DetroitCollegePromise.org, then click
on the Student Login button
on the right hand side. Click here for more information. Those who
register will be sent our student and general newsletter. The
student newsletter has information about scholarships, financial aid and
other college readiness activities (click here to view our December 2009 student
newsletter).
Congratulations to the Cody High Schools
Congratulations to
the Cody High Schools, who have registered 573 students for The Detroit
College Promise, the most of any school (click here for
the statistics). The school with the highest percentage of
registrants is Cody-DIT, one of Cody's 4 small schools, which has 90.9%
registration. Other schools with high numbers of registrants
include Cass Tech (89) and Central (43). Help us get all DPS
students registered so they receive our student emails about
scholarships, financial aid and other programs to help them prepare for
college.
